Chuck Brown, lovingly referred to as the “Godfather of Go-Go,” has remained as its patriarch for more than two decades. However, fans of “Chuck Baby” have been wondering why the longtime veteran has been missing in action for over two months. Yesterday, Brown’s daughter addressed the rumors of her father’s absence in the Washington Post.

“He has pneumonia,” said KK Brown, one of her father’s band members. “He is in the hospital, he is recovering and people need to just keep praying for him.” KK Brown did not elaborate on her father’s condition, only saying that he has been hospitalized for the last two months.

Sources close to the family say that Brown initially was treated for arthritis and a removed blood clot, the latter resulting in Brown falling ill of pneumonia. Brown’s illness has prompted the legend to cancel several shows, including out-of-state gigs. A visit to Chuck Brown’s homepage features this message: “Mr. Brown’s tour schedule is temporarily unavailable pending his recovery from a recent illness. When his schedule resumes, it will be posted here.”

Chuck Brown’s band played at a festival in a Washington-area suburb over the weekend, with KK Brown performing her father’s signature songs.

“Keep praying,” KK Brown said while onstage at the Harlem Renaissance Festival in Prince George’s County. “He’s a fighter.”
