George Zimmerman’s wife filed divorce papers electronically in a Florida court Thursday, “The documents have been received by the Seminole County clerks,” attorney Kelly Sims said in an e-mail. The filing comes a week after Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor perjury charge for lying during a bail hearing after her husband’s arrest in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin of Miami Gardens. Her husband of six years wasn’t in court with her last week as she was sentenced to a year’s probation and 100 hours of community service. George Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in July.
