According to the Washington Post, numerous ceremonies and events will be held in the Washington area to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.  Find some of the events listed below, and leave a comment here on facebook.com/praisdc or twitter @praisedc with suggestions for other ways to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Pentagon Memorialprivate ceremony will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Pentagon Memorial for survivors and families of those who lost their lives in the attack on the Pentagon. The memorial will be opened to the public following the ceremony.

Congressional Remembrance Ceremony

A public ceremony will be held on the front step of the Capitol building at 11 a.m.

National Day of Service

People are urged to perform a charitable service on Sept. 11. Find a volunteer opportunity or pledge to do an unofficial good deed at 911day.org.

Alexandria Remembering 9/11

The City of Alexandria will hold a public remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. in Market Square, 301 King St.

Arlington County Commemorative Event

Arlington County will hold a public ceremony to remember the 184 victims who died on the Pentagon grounds. There will be a moment of silence at 9:37 a.m.

Moment of Silence at Arlington Cemetery

A moment of silence will be held at Arlington Cemetery at 9:37 a.m.

Muslims for Life Blood Drive

blood drive will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Russell Senate Office Building on Constitution Avenue in Northeast Washington.

Two Million Bikers Ride

Thousands of motorcyclists are expected to ride to D.C. in memory of the Sept. 11 attacks. The riders did not receive a permit so streets will not be closed and traffic will not be blocked off, but they are expected to ride through the District by midday.

Day of Remembrance at American University

There will be a moment of silence at 10 a.m. in front of the campus’s 9/11 Memorial, and a candlelight vigil at 10 p.m.

George Washington University Day of Remembrance

The university will hold a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. A candlelight vigil will be held at 7 p.m. in memory of the nine GWU alumni who died in the attacks.

9/11 Heroes Run Arlington

On Saturday, a 5K benefit run will be held in memory of the 9/11 events. The race starts at 8:30 a.m. in Crystal City.
