As reported by USA Today, Watson, who has straightened her hair, begins “the first song I ever learned that was gospel” at the piano. She starts singing tentatively, which fits the lyric, “Truth is, I’m tired.” By the start of the chorus, she’s turned that hesitancy into an asset. Though the song’s highest notes are beyond her range, the emotion in her performance is palpable, and the audience responds enthusiastically. Urban raves about her “completely insane power and range.” Lopez feels like Watson told her a story; she had goosies and tears. Connick says the choice felt risky but “the message was there.” Grade: A-
