Virginia Couple Wins Lottery 3 Times in 1 Month

Calvin and Zatera Spencer have been having an epic month. On March 12 the Portsmouth, Va., couple won a $1 million Powerball drawing. Then, on March 26, Calvin Spencer won $50,000 in the Virginia Lottery’s Pick 4 game. The next day he dropped his wife off at an appointment and stopped at a 7-Eleven in Norfolk to get a $100 Million Cash Extravaganza Scratcher ticket. Shanesha Taylor Reportedly Released From Jail On Bail

According to reports, supporters of 35-year-old Shanesha Taylor have a lot to celebrate about, because the homeless mother of two has reportedly been released from jail on bail. In the wee hours of Monday morning, the Scottsdale, Ariz. mother was released from jail after having her bail paid for, and says that she is “home and safe,” wherever that is. Her children are still in custody of Child Protective Services. Taylor will be free on bond as she awaits a trial for her charges of felony abuse. Read more.

New Michael Jackson Album Drops In May

On the cusp of his death’s fifth anniversary, Epic Records plans to release new Micheal Jackson music! Entitled Xscape, the album will debut on May 13. The idea to create the album was conceived by Epic CEO L.A. Reid, who chose eight songs and handed them over to the lead producer of the project, Timbaland, to “contemporize” the records for 2014 consumption, Gawker reports. Read more.

Army Accused of Targeting Black Hair With New Grooming Standards

A new U.S. Army grooming policy is drumming up cries of racial bias, with some saying it discriminates against black women who have natural hair, Al-Jazeera America reports. According to the news site, the Army Regulation 670-1—which has not been published or made official—includes tightened rules for grooming, particularly regarding how women in service can wear their hair. The rules now ban twists, dreadlocks, Afros and braids more than a quarter-inch thick, calling them “unauthorized.” If and when the regulation is made official, the female soldiers who sport these styles will have to cover them or remove them, or face administrative discipline, Al Jazeera notes.
