NBC 4 reports that Hundreds of people — many of them undocumented immigrants — gathered outside the White House Wednesday, publicly pleading with the president to preserve their families.

The protest was organized by non-profit organization CASA de Virginia, and held at the same time Pres. Obama was meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Those protesting were hoping to halt deportation of undocumented mothers and parents by putting a face on the issue.

“Mr. President, I plead to you to open your heart and think as a parent,” Sandra, a single mother who has lived in the U.S. for 20 years and now wears an ankle bracelet, said. “I have six kids, I don’t know what I would do with myself if I were forced to live without them. Please stop the deportation.”

Another parent said he’s on a one-year stay of deportation.

“These families aren’t just formed by immigrants, they’re Americans. Their children are born here, why not give them a chance to stay here?” he said.

The day before the protest, a Virginia county official went public with his wishes to locate and likely deport undocumented children that have been transferred to his county. Earlier this week, anti-immigrant graffiti reading “No Illegals was found on a Maryland building that could house undocumented children in that area.

More than 50,000 undocumented children without families have crossed the border since October 2013.
