Arlington Police are searching for a man who impersonated a police officer Saturday night in an attempt to lure a woman in to his car.

Around 11:35 p.m., the 31-year-old victim was driving in Ballston when the suspect pulled his car behind hers, activating a red rotating light on his dashboard. Police say the woman pulled over in the 4000 block of North 11th Street and the suspect approached on foot. He displayed a badge and demanded the victim exit her car and accompany him to the police station.

The suspect—a 6-foot-tall, 200-pound black man wearing a faded black winter coat and blue jeans—fled when the woman requested a uniformed officer respond to the scene.

Arlington Police remind citizens who have doubts about the legitimacy of traffic stops to call their non-emergency line.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating the case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Conigliaro at 703-228-4193 or rconig@arlingtonva.us. Tipsters may also contact Arlington County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
