Media reports have surfaced that gospel recording artist and talk show host Lexi’s “The Lexi Show” has been canceled. Well according to Lexi’s Facebook Fan Page, a press release was posted earlier this week confirming this news:

The critically acclaimed talk show “The Lexi Show” has ended its successful four-season run on the Word Network. “The Lexi Show”, hosted by Stellar Gospel Music Award nominee, Lexi, broke barriers in Christian journalism by bringing controversial and real issues in the black church to mainstream media.

Lexi is overwhelmed with the unbelievable number of letters, phone calls and e-mails in support of her talk show. She is thankful and grateful to all of the fans of the “Lexi Show”, and will have a new home for “The Lexi Show” soon.

Lexi is dedicated in bringing you the best in journalism; she is committed to excellence and truth and looks forward to serving her fans again very soon. Please stay tuned for more information regarding Lexi and “The Lexi Show”.

D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) spent more than two hours pressing the flesh and taking names this morning in as he took his one-on-one campaign skills to the heart of Dupont Circle.

Greeting pedestrian commuters at the base of the Dupont Circle fountain, a relaxed Fenty reached out to nearly everyone who passed by, asking them if they were a “D.C. Democrat.” He then posed for photographs and plastered “Fenty” stickers on their clothes.

Most importantly, however, Fenty and a small army of volunteers gathered all-important names, e-mail and addresses to log into their voting files – which will become indispensable commodities when it comes to the mayor’s get-out-the vote effort.

“Are you a D.C. Democrat?” Fenty asked one hurried commuter. “Do you think I can count on you? … I just want to get your name.”

Many of people who Fenty came in contact with this morning gladly gave their information to the mayor’s volunteers. And when someone said they were too busy to stop because they were late for work, Fenty ordered a volunteer to walk with that person to collect the information on-the-go.

The people walking near the fountain this morning are just the type of voters Fenty advisers believe they need to reach in order to be successful. Many were in their 20s and 30s, and most interviewed by The Washington Post said they do not follow local politics closely.

“You need to register to vote for the primary,” Fenty told one new District resident, who had stopped to have his picture taken with the mayor. “Do you mind if Chuck gets your name?”

More than a few passersby said they live in suburban Maryland or Virginia. Fenty tried to recruit those commuters as volunteers for his campaign.

Missing Bowie State University student Katrice Hall of Lanham and her cousin, Shawnta Hall have been located unharmed, according to an e-mail sent to the campus community Friday afternoon. Bowie State campus police did not have the address of the cousin.

Katrice’s mother, whose name has not been released, reported the cousins missing to Prince George’s County police April 11 and to Bowie State police April 13.

Katrice Hall, 23, and Shawnta Hall, 22, were located Friday at a condominium in Silver Spring, according Bowie State police.

The mother and family members found the car that the students had driven away from a family gathering the previous Saturday at the condominium and waited until the cousins returned to the condominium Friday afternoon, said Bowie State Police Chief Ernest Waiters.

The two women were last seen April 10 at the family gathering in Silver Spring.

Hall’s mother came to the Bowie State campus April 14 to distribute posters with a photo of the cousins taken at the family gathering in hopes students could help locate them. On Friday Waiters sent an e-mail alert to students and staff of the campus.

An Accokeek family says its mentally challenged child was beaten by a teacher’s aide from Oxon Hill Middle School.

“What makes this more sickening and unexcusable is that this attack happened to a 14-year-old mentally handicapped child with the mental capacity of a 6-year old,” says Natalie Williams, spokesperson for the family of the alleged attack.

The family says the teacher’s aide grabbed a basketball and threw it at the face of the teenager. “He then picked the child up, threw him into the bleachers, as the child attempted to get up, the assaulting teacher grabbed him once again and threw him back into the bleachers for a second time,” explained Williams.

The family wants to know why the teen was not taken to the nurse’s office, why security did not respond and why the school failed to notify the parents immediately.

Lisa Trueseale, a parent of a student, says, “You can imagine something like this nowadays, I’m surprised nothing has come home from the school body.”

Prince George’s County Public Schools sent out a letter a week after the alleged incident, informing parents of a change in leadership. Principal A.H. Sharif Salim is on indefinite personnel leave. The school system does not say whether or not the change at the school’s top position is a result of the alleged attack.

Prince George’s County Police are investigating and Prince George’s County Public Schools have referred the case to Child Welfare Authorities.

The Washington Teachers’ Union has asked a D.C. a Superior Court judge to re-open its lawsuit challenging the legitimacy of the teacher layoffs Chancellor Michelle Rhee ordered last October because of what she described as a budget crunch.

Union president George Parker and American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten said Friday that the tangle of charge and counter-charge this past week involving Rhee’s claims of a $34 million surplus in the school system budget — which she intended to use to fund the new proposed teachers contract — make it imperative that the matter return to court. Judge Judith Bartnoff rejected union claims last fall that the budget crisis was fabricated by Rhee.

The union electronically filed motions to re-open the case late Thursday evening.
