Oh yeah, and since I left the industry, I make it a point to NEVER tip below 15%. Even if all I had was a cup of tea.

I agree, as a former server (for almost 10 years) I can see the humor in the sitaution as well. I agree that everyone deserves fair service, however servers do not make but between $2-$5 an hour and depend on tips to pay the bills, support their families, etc. I think people are under the impression that servers make bankloads of money and all those tips add up. Trust me, they do NOT. Most restaraunts require servers to "tip out" at the end of thei shift to those who contributed to the success of the business day. That may include the bartender (even if you served NO drinks that day), the bus boys(s), the food runner (the person who brings your food to the table that is not your server) and in some cases, even the hostess. That can be half of what you made that night. And in most cases, whether your tips reflect this or not, you have to tip out at least 2% (and can be as much as 10-18% in some places)to EACH person. So, that means if I sold $900 in food and drinks for the evening, I better be prepared to tip out at LEAST $8-$16 per person. There have even been some nights when I know the rent was due and would go home in tears because I have tipped out over $50 and am going home with nothing but $30 in my pocket. Most servers will work what we call "doubles." Which means working from open to close, with barely any breaks in between. You are in "ruch" mode for over 10 hours, listening to people complain, crying babies, children running rampid, cold food sent back, kitchen errors, managers are nowhere to be found, the bar is 86 (out of) this and that... it gets to be hectic, stressful and not everyone can handle being a SERVER or possesses the strength to stay in this industry. The sad thing is that the public (especially if you have never worked in the industry) only sees the smiling face that approaches your table, introduces themselves and promises to take care of you for the evening. You better beleive that smile disappears as soon as the server's back is turned headed to the computer to put your order in. And as that server is ringing in your order, with a long list of other tables to check on and food to run and more, they are hoping that you are educated enough to know that when dining out, it is proper etiquette to tip at least 10% of your total bill...BEFORE comps (because we still have to tip out on that too). We understand that not EVEYONE is able to give as much as they would like to. But you know what, a nice "We really enjoyed ourselves tonight,m you were great. Wish I could give you more," is just fine. And yes, we do understand. But when you continue to go to the same place over and over, and you do not tip well or you refuse to tip at all, you can guarantee that the next time you walk in the door, all the servers are saying, "I'm not taking her (him, them) give them to one of the new guys. Why? Because we cannot afford to serve you. You are actually COSTING US money and whether you tip or not, we STILL have to tip out on YOUR total bill. Sad yes, but true. Don't beleive me? Ask a server...anywhere.

I'm sorry but as a restaurant owner and a good tipper I see the humor in this, and am very glad to see someone stand up for people in the service industry. It is hard for me to watch my servers work to please people and give them a wonderful experience only to get a two dollar tip on an eighty dollar meal. Come on people if your gonna tip bad be ready for bad service.

Dear Yolanda Adams and Team,
I have written a beautiful christian song. It is to the same music as Smokey Robinson's Ooo Baby Baby. Please tell me what I need to do to get my song heard. Everyone that hears it tells me it will be a definite hit!! I just need proper guidance. Can you please help?

I am a single mother who has been unemployed for 14 months now. I have three young men who I've worked 18 years to support, they are my world, my sons mean EVERYTHING to me. My unemployment runs out in six weeks and then I will be having to sell our home and I don't know what's going to happen then!! So this single mother is trying to pull out everything that's in me to keep that from happening.

Please, please can you pay it forward and give this single mother who has a strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ some advice on what I need to do to get my song heard? I love Him and He puts these words in my heart when the pain is the deepest. He reminds me to have faith, be strong, and to reach for My Lord and Savior!! Please, please contact me. It is truly a beautiful song!!

Respectfully,

For the past several years, I have made attempts to help promote LUPUS Awareness locally and nationally because still in 2010, there are many people who have never heard of this devastating disease; a disease that affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans where 90% are women (the majority affected are African-American. While some progress has been made, LUPUS still does not get the attention as AIDS, Cancer, Diabetes and now Autism receives yet this disease for many is debilitating and often fatal. LUPUS is known as the great imitator and while new treatment options have been initiated, many medical professionals still find difficulty in diagnosing and treating this disease. This is why it is so very critical that adequate funding is available for continued research so that a cure can be found. I have managed the disease pretty well for 22 years however; in 2008, I fell ill, ironically, the weekend of the passing of Bernie Mac, and I have not fully recovered yet. I have ILD, Interstitial Lung Disease, caused by scarring on the lungs. I am blessed in knowing my healing is near by faith and belief in God. In the interim, it is critical that this grossly under reported health condition affected thousands of African-Americans is given the recognition it deserves.

I am writing with the hopes that Praise 104.1 will assist me in my efforts to promote LUPUS AWARENESS by considering joining my team:
