
Bernice King, the youngest child of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will not assume the presidency of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference as she had been scheduled to do next month. The “Atlanta Journal-Constitution” reports that a spokesman says Bernice King wants to wait until a Fulton County judge has resolved issues related to control of the civil rights organization her father co-founded. Bernice King, a minister at New Birth Missionary Church in Lithonia, was chosen last October to become the first woman to head the SCLC.
