(Brentwood, MD) – The town of Brentwood, Maryland is issuing refunds to hundreds of drivers who were wrongly issued speed camera tickets between June 24th and July 13th. The “Washington Examiner” reports that the refund is being attributed to an “internal error” of some type, but there has been no further explanation from town officials. Police Chief David Risik, who operates the program, does not know why the refunds are being issued but says it could be a problem with a “third party vendor” that issues tickets for camera vendor, Optotraffic. In turn, Optotraffic points to the town, saying an officer on leave had been signing the violations. Maryland law prohibits inactive officers from signing off on citations. Drivers issued a ticket during the two-week window should e-mail the town’s police department for a refund.Copyright © 2010 Metro Networks Communications Inc., A Westwood One Company
