(Silver Spring, MD) – Workers and residents in Silver Spring are still in shock by Wednesday’s hostage situation at Discovery Channel headquarters. The incident forced the evacuation of the building and a shutdown of area roadways and those watching the scene unfold are thankful and relieved that no one was injured in the building or on the street. Police shot and killed gunman James Lee after he pointed a gun at one of the three men he had taken hostage in the lobby. In addition to bringing a gun, police say Lee strapped explosives to his body and also carried in boxes and backpacks. Montgomery County police say several explosives were set off late last night in a controlled detonation. Lee had a history of conflict with the cable channel because he didn’t believe it was airing enough planet friendly programming.
