Breanna Murry (pictured left), 8, of Detroit was in a field during school when she saw a $100 bill on the ground. Instead of pocketing the cash, she immediately gave it her teacher, Ric Genthner, saying that it didn’t belong to her, the Detroit News reports.

Genthner thought so highly of little Breanna’s honesty that he mentioned it online. One of his friends in Florida sent him a $10 bill in the mail for the little girl. Breanna took the money home saying that, ” I gave it to my moma.”

John Van Riper from Ann Arbor, Michigan, wrote a $100 check and mailed it in a package to Breanna at school “to replace what she could have so easily had but, instead, made a very courageous and ethical decision.”

Van Riper also said that “I hope the $100 she found is real. If she gets it back, good for her.” (The bill was a fake and it was confiscated by the Secret Service)

The Detroit News has more:

On Tuesday, her classmates applauded her. Her friend Mariah Copeland, 8, said that Breanna’s action was typical. “She always helps people out. She does nice things.”

Breanna stood on the stage, proud and slightly stunned, as Principal Cindy Lang saluted her honesty.

“The great thing she did,” Taurean Simpson, 8, explained to me, “was she didn’t take the money home, even though she probably needed it. In the end, she probably got more.”

Most likely, she surely did.
