This morning I ran across a video that really angered me first as a parent then second as a leader in the community seeking betterment in the lives our youth. In this video a seven year old is boasting in his ability to make a “booty pop”. A term degrading sexual relations with a woman.  The first thing that really angered me was “WHAT TYPE OF PARENT would allow their child to engage in such baseless behavior? There are still parents such as myself that view this type of behavior from such a young person as unnatural and it is teaching the child in the wrong way to go. I sent the video to several of my most trusted inner circle friends and they all had the same feedback…..”LORD HELP US”! In a community where we could just as easily push our young people to the highest levels of math and science by the age of 7, we instead have them memorizing derogatory hip-hop lyrics about smoking blunts, getting drunk every weekend, having sex with any girl who wants it and going to prison with tear drop tattoos.  Rather than producing captains of industry, entrepreneurship and production, we all too often produce the people who stand in line for a week to spend $200 on a pair of Air Yeezys.  I no longer marvel at the skill of 7-year old rappers; instead, I get excited about 7-year olds who speak three languages, do Calculus or start their businesses.  We are more than just entertainers and athletes, and our girls have value that goes beyond the “poppability” of their backsides. The good news is that there are those who are smart enough to understand the destructive nature of the buffoonery, and we are raising our kids to rise above the ignorance.  This video should never have been made, and the world is letting Tyler’s family know that this kind of thing is not cool or acceptable.   Coonery is never cute or fun to watch from a highly-impressionable 7-year old, even if you’re trying to be funny. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment. Is this video disturbing and why?
