Is it archaic to label children, born out of wedlock, as illegitimate? That is part of a debate swirling in the african american community after a recent blog post called “Why Doesn’t The Black Community Value Marriage?”

The author states while the “out of wedlock” rate is rising across the races, every other race, except for the black race, values making a baby within wedlock. A response from a fellow blogger suggests that blacks should no longer be overly concerned about out of wedlock births, because times have changed. Furthermore the court doesn’t even label children as illegitimate anymore.

Krystallynn Harrison, who wrote the blog article, called in to the TJMS to talk to Jacque Reidabout marriage. In case you missed the interview, you can listen here.
