New research is suggesting that there is a link between dating for middle and high school age students, and high risk behavior later in life.

According to a study conducted by the University of Georgia, young people who had little or no dating life while in school actually performed better academically than those who did.

The study followed a group of more than 600 students over a seven year period from sixth to twelfth grade.

It found that students who started to form romantic relationships with their peers in their earlier middle school years were four times more likely to drop out of school, and twice as likely to use alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana before their high school graduation.
