Several people were arrested after blocking traffic while protesting at a Walmart in Hyattsville, Md., Thursday evening. The protest was part of a series of protests nationwide. Workers and their supporters are demanding better wages, working conditions and jobs from the retail Giant. One of the four-to-six people arrested was fired from a Walmart in Laurel because she was trying to organize. “Eight twenty-five was all I got, but I still did the work,”

She said she was fired for talking to a coworker known as a labor organizer. “They fire people and then they hire other people, them not knowing what’s going on, and they’re going to do them the same way, and this is the reason why I’m here,” she said. Thousands protested across the country after a Labor Day deadline passed. The demonstrators want full-time work with a minimum salary of $25,000 per year and the reinstatement of workers fired for trying to organize. “My opinion is, for Walmart and anyone else who needs more money, you just need to be promoted,” Walmart employee Adrienne Faucette said. “Just step up your game.” Walmart public relations specialists say that she’s so happy with working conditions that some of her 10 children also work for Walmart. “A handful of union orchestrated media stunts, made of up of primarily union members and activists, don’t represent the views of the vast majority of the 1.3 million associates who do work for Walmart,
