According to our local NBC affiliate, NBC-4:

The northbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway have reopened following a double fatal accident in Cheverly, Md, Thursday morning.

The three mile stretch of the BW Parkway between Kenilworth Avenue and New York Avenue was closed for several hours as police completed their investigation.

Investigators believe the car and truck involved in the crash were both traveling north when the truck slowed down to take the exit ramp for Route 202 just before 2 a.m. As the truck slowed, the sedan slammed into the back of the truck and flipped onto its roof.

News4’s Megan McGrath says four women were inside the car at the time; two of the women were pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining occupants were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The two people in the truck suffered minor injuries.

The vicitms have not been identified.

Police hoped to reopen the northbound lanes by 7 a.m., but it was nearly 9:30 a.m. when the lanes finally reopened.
