Remember the Santa who became the unlikely victim of a shooter on Christmas Eve? Well he has finally broken his silence.  Xavier Hawkins was shot in the back with a pellet gun in Southeast D.C. last week Christmas Eve and today he chose to break his silence and today he”s showing the power of forgiveness.

Police still have not identified who shot Hawkins, but he says whoever it is, he or she is forgiven, a lesson he’s learned through faith. “All of sudden I see my dad lean over, and I’m like ‘what’s going on? what’s wrong?'” says Alaya Hawkins, his daughter. As Hawkins strolled through a neighborhood to give away toys, someone shot him with a pellet gun. “Somebody just shot me,” he said. Alaya watched as her father doubled over. It was a shocking moment, a painful attack that the Hawkins family is slowly coming to terms with. But Hawkins says he has every intention of going to the very same neighborhood next year. “It’s not about me, it’s not about anyone, it’s about the kids,” he says. Hawkins says he still has a bit of pain in his back and intends to go to counseling to help him move on.
