An Atlanta teen used a rope to climb 15 feet down a storm drain to rescue a 3-year-old boy who had fallen in. Duntrey Murray, 14, had been playing basketball nearby with pal Ransom McCain in northwest Atlanta when neighbors heard the cries of Jaylin Willis, reports area news outlet WSB-TV. District Suspends White Teacher Over Blackface Lesson
A Michigan community is rallying behind a teacher who was suspended after showing a video of white entertainers in blackface during an African-American history lesson, according to the Monroe News. The white teacher, Alan Barron, 59, showed his Monroe Middle School eighth-grade class a video of how white people used blackface to imitate African Americans during so-called entertainment in the 1800s, the report says. Mississippi Will Use Its New Voter ID Law For Tuesday’s Primary
Mississippi is preparing to use its new voter ID law for the first time, culminating a long political fight in a state with a troubled past of voting-rights suppression. People will be required to show a driver’s license or other government-issued photo identification at the polls during Tuesday’s party primaries for U.S. House and Senate. The secretary of state’s office says about 1,000 people who lacked an acceptable form of photo ID have received a free one from local election clerks. Read more.

Two Children Stabbed, One Fatally, in Brooklyn Elevator
Best friends Mikayla Capers, 7, and Prince Joshua Avitto, 6, were playing on Sunday night in the Brooklyn housing project where they live, when they became the victims of a horrific and seemingly random attack. The pair were on their way to get Icees just before 6 p.m. when a man followed them into an elevator in the Boulevard Houses on Schenck Avenue in East New York. While riding between the fourth and first floors, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed both children after telling them to “shut up,” police sources told the Daily News. The boy, known as P.J., was found dead in the elevator. Mikayla, who was stabbed more than 15 times, managed to stumble out into the hallway. A neighbor told the New York Times that as Mikayla rode in the ambulance she asked, “Did P.J. die?” and, “Why did this man hurt me?” Read more.
