I think I can speak for most naturals when I say detangling is NOT FUN! Tangles and knots – it really can just be a mess. Well, unfortunately it’s something we have to do. But I’ll let you in on a little secret to make your life a lot easier…

Dry Detangling!

Most women don’t bother to detangle their hair before they wash, but I suggest you start. Before washing your hair, on dry hair, use an oil to go through your strands. You can also take this as an opportunity to put your in sections so you’ll be ready to section wash (another way to cut down on detangle mania).

After washing your hair, make sure to dry hair thoroughly with an old t-shirt. Have a good detangling leave-in conditioner handy and work it through each section of your hair as you detangle for the second time. I know it seems like a lot, but trust me you will see how much easier it is. Why? Because you already did the work in the beginning!

I suggest naturals finger detangle first before using a comb to reduce breakage. Many women choose only to finger detangle, which is perfectly fine. I’ve realized overtime it’s best for me to thoroughly detangle, so I use a wide-tooth comb to go through my hair a couple times after I get the kinks out with my fingers.

This method is pretty simple, but it’s your patience that will make or break your experience. Never detangle your tresses when you are in a rush. It’s not the move.  Now that you’re in on the secret, put a little more enthusiasm into your next detangling session!
