Palm Sunday: (Matthew 21:1, Mark 11:1, Luke 19:29, John 12:12)

  • Triumphant entrance into Jerusalem
  • Spends the night in Bethany

Monday: (Matthew 21:12, Mark 11:22, Luke 19:45)

  • Leaves Bethany
  • Curses the fig tree on the way into the city
  • Weeps over Jerusalem
  • Cleanses the temple for the second time in His ministry
  • Late in the day, looks into the Temple, then leaves the city
  • Spends the night in Bethany

Tuesday:  (Matthew 21:20, Mark 11:20, Luke 20:36, John 12:20)

  • Leaves Bethany
  • Finds the fig tree withered; teaches on faith
  • Possesses the temple and its precincts; confounds and pronounces woes upon His enemies
  • Leaves city; Olivet with discourse on the way back to Bethany
  • Judas bargains with the Sanhedrin to betray Jesus
  • Spends the night in Bethany

Wednesday: Silent Day

  • No record in the Gospels, but much activity as Jesus prepares for the Last Supper and as Judas and the Sanhedrin prepares for Jesus’ arrest
  • Remains in Bethany throughout the day, stays the night there

Maudy Thursday:  (Matthew 26:1, Mark 14:1, Luke 22:1)

  • Peter and John sent to make preparation for the Passover meal
  • After sunset, eats a meal with the twelve disciples; Judas departs
  • Lord’s Supper instituted
  • To the Garden of Gethsemane; Jesus experiences agony
  • Betrayal by Judas and arrested by the Sanhedrin army
  • To the house of the High Priest as the Sanhedrin convened; Peter betrays Jesus

Good Friday: The Trials of Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:1, Mark 14:53, Luke 22:54, John 18:13)

  • First Trial: This trial took place in the night before Annas.  Annas is looking for an accusation giving the Sanhedrin time to gather at the High Priestly villa
  • Second Trial: Jesus is condemned and misused
  • Third Trial: Immediately at dawn the condemnation repeated and then Jesus is taken to the Romans
  • Forth Trial:  This trial was before Pilate beginning at Galilee
  • Fifth Trial:  This trial is before Herod who looks for a miracle
  • Sixth Trial:  Jesus goes back before Pilate
  • Jesus is scourged.  The city cries, “Crucify Him or we will tell Rome!”
  • Jesus is finally turned over to be crucified
  • Jesus is mocked as the Roman soldiers places the crown of thorns on his head
  • Judas hangs himself
  • Jesus bears His cross to the gate on the north of the city and is crucified around 9am
  • Jesus’ seven sayings from the cross
  • Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.

  • About 3pm; the veil was torn, rocks rented; some graves opened and people rose and went into the city

  • At the request of the Jewish leadership, Pilate grants a guard and sets a seal on the tomb of Jesus (Matthew 27:66)

Jesus Christ Rises from the dead: Jesus rises before dawn and makes 5 appearances (Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:1, Luke 24:1, John 20:1)

  • Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene.  She was given a message to give to the disciples.
  • Jesus made an appearance to the women who came to the tomb to complete the burial preparation of His body.
  • Jesus appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus
  • Jesus appeared to Simon Peter (Luke 24:33 and I Corinthians 1:5)
  • Jesus appeared before all of the disciples, except Thomas.
