In The U.S. more than 25% of all children currently live below the federal poverty line. Another 26% live just above it. It is a humanitarian crisis, to be sure, when such a large number of children, our most vulnerable citizens, live without the most basic necessities. But the impact of child poverty goes far beyond immediate deprivation. Nearly 1/2 of the world’s population — more than 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day. More than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 a day.
