ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP/WJLA) – Police have arrested a suspect on a cruise ship in Alaska and charged him with a double murder after he confessed to killing a well-liked couple found slain on Mother’s Day, police said Sunday.

Montgomery County police announced Scott Tomaszewski, 31, of Rockville, was arrested Saturday in Juneau, Alaska. Tomaszewski was on a luxury cruise with his father, mother and 28-year-old sister. All four were disembarking from the ‘Coral Princess’ on the Princess Cruise Line, destined for a morning whale watching excursion when police officers confronted the 31-year-old.

Richard and Julianne Vilardo‘s adult daughter found her parents dead at their home along the 13200 block of Ridge Drive around 12:15 p.m. on May 10. An autopsy confirmed the couple was stabbed to death. Judy was located in the kitchen, Dick on the outdoor back patio. Police say blood was everywhere.

According to charging documents filed in Montgomery County District Court, Tomaszewski used a knife to cut and remove a screen from a first floor window at the Vilardo home sometime after midnight on May 10. Police say they found mulch on couch pillows below the window indicating someone climbed through. Tomaszewski then reportedly attacked the couple in their bedroom.
