So, I ran across this meme on Facebook that not only cracked me up, but inspired me to write this post!  I don’t know about you, but my Mom was a master of having that “keep calm and carry on” demeanor, all while putting the fear of God in me with that firm “you better get yourself together REAL quick” arm grip.  I didn’t appreciate her choice of discipline then, but now that I’m an adult I’m grateful for it.  That brings up the age old debate, should one spare the rod or spoil the child?  Is it in the child’s best interest to endure physical discipline, or can other forms of discipline work just as well?  Well, I can say that I benefited from both the hands-on (Mom) and hands-off (Dad) approach.  I think more than anything, my parents balanced each other out.  All my Dad had to do was speak to me in the stern voice and I would snap to in 2.5 seconds flat! The most important sentiment that I took away from the way both of my parents disciplined me, was that they loved and cared about me more than anything.  They loved me so much that they weren’t about to allow me to walk these streets like I had lost my natural mind.  It’s because of them that I have an automatic “check myself” switch! What are your thoughts on this age old debate?
