Old man winter’s been hanging around for a minute, but now he’s really starting to get comfortable.

The Washington area is recovering from a record snowfall, whereas some areas saw between 17 and 36 inches.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared state of emergency on January 21 as a precaution of the Jonas blizzard that hit the area on January 22. And D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser announced recently announced that schools would be closed on January 25.

While main roads are being cleared and local roads are still being tended to, officials urge the DMV-metro to avoid driving when possible. Local airports say travelers can expect suspended and delayed airline service.
