Bill Cosby Case: Ex-DA Says He ‘Bound’ Pennsylvania By Not Prosecuting:
Former Pennsylvania prosecutor Bruce Castor may not want a judge to throw out recent sexual assault charges against Bill Cosby. But he conceded Tuesday he thought he barred the commonwealth from prosecuting the case 11 years ago.
Bruce Castor, a former Montgomery County district attorney, testified in a pretrial hearing in Norristown, where attorneys for the entertainer are asking a judge to drop recent charges accusing Cosby of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in 2004.
Cosby’s lawyers contend that charges filed late last year by Castor’s successor should be dismissed because Castor announced in 2005 that Cosby wouldn’t be prosecuted.
Trump Says Skipping Debate Might Have Cost Him In Iowa:
Donald Trump on Tuesday said his decision to skip the last Republican debate before the Iowa caucuses may have led to his second-place finish in the Hawkeye State.
“That could’ve been with the debate,” Trump acknowledged to reporters in Milford, New Hampshire, where he was introduced and endorsed by former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown. “I think some people were disappointed that I didn’t go into the debate.”
Iowa entrance polls showed most voters who made up their minds in the final days before the caucuses settled on chief rival Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, not Trump. The nationwide GOP front-runner had skipped Thursday’s Fox News debate due to an ongoing feud with the network.
Yahoo Lays Off 15% Of Staff After Posting A Massive Loss:
Yahoo announced a massive, $4.4 billion loss last quarter and said it will lay off 15% of its workforce as part of a plan to return the company to “modest to accelerating growth” next year and in 2018. The layoffs will reduce Yahoo’s headcount by about 1,600 employees to around 9,000 staff.
The new plan, announced Tuesday afternoon, will focus on Yahoo’s core strengths: Its products (Search, Mail and Tumblr) and its media brands (News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyle). The company will also streamline its advertising platforms, close five global offices and shutter businesses that aren’t growing, including games, smart TV and scripted TV shows.
“Yahoo cannot win the hearts and minds of users and advertisers with a complicated portfolio of products and assets,” Mayer said on a conference call with investors.
