MSNBC Officially Cuts Ties With Melissa Harris-Perry
Following a fall-out with MSNBC, Melissa Harris-Perry’s show has been officially cut from the network’s lineup. On Friday, Harris-Perry said she was boycotting her own show because she was constantly battling with producers over having control in regards to what topics should be discussed. She claims the network planned on suspending her show and was just keeping her on air for diversity purposes. “I will not be used as a tool for their purposes,” Perry wrote in an email to her staff. “I am not a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head… I love our show. I want it back.” The issue between Harris-Perry and MSNBC reportedly escalated when she planned on addressing the controversy surrounding Beyoncé’s song “Formation.” When she started the segment, the network broke into coverage of the presidential election. Harris-Perry took to Twitter on Sunday to say farewell to her viewers. “Farewell #Nerdland,” she tweeted. “Inviting diverse new voices to table was a privilege. Grateful for years of support & criticism.” She’s hosted the show since 2012. Read more.
