The show’s creator Lin-Manuel Mirandaand it’s amazing cast will perform their innovative musical in D.C. as part of their “robust educational initiatives,” Variety reported. Miranda announced Hamilton’s road trip on Youtube today.
The March 16 event will include:
Opening remarks by the FLOTUS
Q&A with members of the “Hamilton” cast
An afternoon performance of selections from the show
Hopefully, they will perform the show’s most beloved songs including our personal favorite, “The Schuyler Sisters.”
The innovative musical has become one of the most talked about musicals to hit Broadway in years. “Hamilton” flips the story of America’s Founding Fathers on its head with its racially inclusive cast that includes Emmy-nominated actress Renee Elise Goldsberry, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs and Phillipa Soo.
This Grammy-winning hit is so popular that it holds the number 3 spot of most tickets sold this year only behind The Super Bowl and Beyonce’s Formation Tour. Scoring a seat for the acclaimed show is so hard that scammers are being arrested for selling fake tickets and the New York Times “stopped just short of urging readers to “mortgage their houses and lease their children” for the chance to see it,” Newsweek noted.
Tickets are now going for $400 or more online, but thanks to the Rockefeller Foundation and the Gilder Lehrman Institute and a $1.46 million initiative, New York City students only have to pay a mere $10 to attend Wednesday matinees of the show.
