The wife of the Louisiana principal accused of murdering a pregnant teacher is standing by her husband, in spite of the fact that she is reportedly uncertain of his innocence.

According to The Advocate, Kala Marks said she is hoping for the best in a devastating situation.

“I’m hoping that it all turns out well,” she was quoted as saying. “I can’t say, ‘Oh, he definitely didn’t do this.’ I don’t know. I’m just really confused.”

Her husband is 39-year-old Dr. Robert Marks, who will face charges of first-degree murder and first-degree feticide on Friday after Lyntell Washington‘s body was found in a ditch in a sugar cane field on June 13.

As HelloBeautiful previously reported, police claim that Robert Marks and Washington were engaged in an extramarital affair and that he allegedly killed her over fears that his wife would find out she was pregnant with his child.

Robert Marks was arrested after Washington’s 3-year-old daughter was found wandering near her mother’s car, which was splattered with blood. The toddler reportedly told police, “Mr. Robbie put my mom in the lake.”

On Monday, in an interview with TV journalist Nancy Grace, Kala said she loved her husband and has been living in a nightmare ever since his arrest.

“I mean, he’s my husband. I love him, we have kids together, our marriage was doing fine,” she said. “I can’t turn off my love for him just because he’s in jail.”

Kala said her husband’s affair hurt her “to the core.”

It hurt me,” she said. “It hurt me to the core that he was cheating on me and had a child with her.”

She added she does not believe the affair was going on for long.

“I don’t believe it because he was with me all the time,” she said. “I don’t see when he would have had the time to do it. I keep replaying it in my head, our marriage.”

On the night Washington went missing, she said her husband told her he took his motorcycle to go watch a basketball game at a friend’s house. After some time, he stopped responding to her messages and she grew concerned. She told The Advocate that she went to sleep and did not notice when he came in around 12:15 a.m. She then claimed he was gone before she woke up that morning.

“I have two kids that keep asking for their daddy,” she said. “I don’t know what to do. It’s not a good situation at all.”

Washington, who was seven-months-pregnant, was shot in the head, according to autopsy reports. Cell-phone records placed her and Robert Marks in the Iberville Parish area around 9:45 p.m. on the night she disappeared. Fifteen minutes later, she traveled to the Baton Rouge area where her toddler was found wandering, The Advocate reports.
