Angela Basset is known for her youthful glow. Now she’s going to help us all achieve it, too.

The American Horror Story actress partnered with a friend, Dr. Barbara Sturm to create, Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm in a skincare line.

Angela and Barbara ensured extensive research was conducted, with a two-year development process. The duo wanted to focus on issues for the melanin rich, including inflammation, hyper pigmentation and uneven skin tone. After two years, they decided on natural ingredients, including skull cap, and the main ingredient within the line, purslane, an herb that has elements protecting the DNA of cells from age-related effects.

There is also a youth enzyme or a telomerase activator, which fights against naturally programmed cell death. The line really focused on inflammation. Dr. Sturm reveals,

“Since African-American, or skin of color, problems [revolve] mainly [around] inflammation that is why I especially took care in this range. It has real ingredients, which are scientifically shown to address inflammation.”

Angela is focused on her consumers becoming more aware of skincare and anti-aging fighting properties and techniques for skincare maintenance. She provided her nanny with the products, stating that she’s noticed over the years, not necessarily ‘bad’ skin, but spots that would never lighten. Angela explained,

“There is a difference between brown and black, and in the end it would never lighten. She does not use sunscreen to my knowledge. And even when I think about this, in the park with the kids in the sun, the dark spots get darker as the skin gets darker. You don’t have the opportunity to lighten and normalize or catch up.”

Ranging from $58.00 for a cleaner to $335.00 for a hyaluronic serum, these products are packed with ingredients that rejuvenate, calm, and repair.

They will be available exclusively at Harrods in-store and online in July.
