It was just last week that a Yale employee made national news when he destroyed a glass panel in the campus dining hall that depicted slaves picking cotton. Corey Menafee was arrested and fired after destroying campus property, but today he got some good news involving the incident.

ABC News is reporting that Corey Menafee has been rehired by Yale University and can begin going back to work pretty soon. After Yale decided not to press any charges against Menafee for the incident, many thought that was the end of the story, but an even happier ending was around the corner.

Their report states:

A black former Yale University dining services worker who used a broomstick to smash a stained-glass window depicting slaves and then resigned has gotten his job back. Menafee, who apologized for breaking the window, asked through his union to have his job back.

Yale University said Tuesday it was willing to give him “a second chance.” Yale spokeswoman Karen Peart said the university had informed his attorney he would be allowed to return to a position in a different setting. “We are willing to take these unusual steps given the unique circumstances of this matter,” Peart said. Menafee’s attorney, Patricia Kane, said he was “delighted to accept Yale’s offer” and planned to report for work next Monday morning.

So very glad to hear that this story not only ended with Corey Menafee not serving any jail time, but that he was also given back his job. Hopefully, Yale will be more conscious in the future of offensive imagery on campus.
