Lesson Title: I SEE A NEW JERUSALEM

Adult/Young Adult Topic: ETERNAL BEAUTY

Printed Text: Revelation 21:9-14, 22-27

Key Verses: Revelation 21:22-23 (NIV)

I did not see a temple in the city, because the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of GOD gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

It is difficult for people to imagine living in a place that is different from the one in which they presently live. What will the new place be like? John used figurative, nonliteral language to describe the new place that God will create.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

The world we live in is filled with hatred, violence, oppression, and so much malice that men and women wonder if things will ever be better. Revelation is a book that encourages the saints of God to have hope in the promised reality of God. John illuminated for the believer the reality of our blessed hope which is grounded in the risen Christ who is the Lamb.

Hold on to the profession of your faith, with the expectation of one day gathering with all of the nations of the world. John saw a city where there were no gates or doors to keep out people; it was open to all who come in faith and have made their robes white in the blood of the Lamb. Like her LORD, the church is encouraged and taught to be a welcoming community that is open to all people.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, may we by your grace be open and inviting to those who are different from us. May we never lose sight of your glory as we live out our days awaiting the final consummation of the ages. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
