Lesson Title: ALL CREATION OVERFLOWS WITH PRAISE

Adult/Young Adult Topic: SING A NEW SONG

Printed Text: PSALM 96:1-6. 10-13

Key Verse: Psalm 96:1 (NIV)

SING TO the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Source: Townsend Press Sunday School Commentary – 96th Edition, 2016-2017

UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

We are awed by the beauty and grandeur of Creation. How can we give appropriate expression to these feelings of awe? The psalmist called all creation to declare the glory of the LORD for His marvelous works.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

To sing this psalm as a song of praise in worship is to be forced to consider the reality of what it means that God is King in our lives. We can correct our posture and lighten our spirits simply be filling ourselves with the songs of the psalmists. The more we sing them into our hearts, the more we will be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2), and that transformation will give us a new song.

Our song is renewed each time we experience a new grace or new mercy of God and come to love Him as our King in newer, deeper and more faithful ways.

PRAYER:

Lord, you are our King and you reign forever. Grant us that we may be your subjects. We desire to be loyal, submissive, devoted and faithful to your will and way. We confess that we often go astray as we follow our own passions and desires, but we praise you for your Word that ministers to us, humbles us, and puts us back in proper fellowship and service with you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
