UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

People experience being rescued from dire circumstances and are thankful. Whom do we thank in these circumstances? Jonah acknowledged with thanksgiving that it is God’s love that protects and offers deliverance.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

God’s love certainly preserved Jonah. If God had been like us, He would not have rescued Jonah. He would have let him drown. Instead of allowing Jonah to drown, God prepared a huge fish to shelter him. Jonah had made a bad choice. He should never have tried to run from God, but in verses 1-9, Jonah made the right choice in praying to God for deliverance. We all appreciate the importance of making the right choices, especially when it comes to our relationship with God. We have all had our “stormy seas” times in life. These were times that really tested our faith. The wonderful conclusion is that even before entering these storms, we know that God is already with us. We thank Him for seeing us safely through these most difficult circumstances.

PRAYER:

God, sometimes we feel like we are having an “in the belly of the fish” experience when the troubles of this life get to us. Yet, we know that you are with us in these low points in our lives. You have delivered us on more than one occasion. That is why we give you praise from the depths of our souls. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
