“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

The word “broken” in Hebrew is the word “shabar” and means “to rend violently or crush; to maim, cripple, or break.” “Shabar” was used to describe ships that had been splintered and torn due to ferocious and wild winds. It was also used to describe the tearing and ripping that wild, ravenous beasts performed upon their prey.

When the Psalmist declares that “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted”, he is reminding us that the Lord is lovingly attentive to those who are enduring unimaginable pain.

If you are emotionally torn apart and wonder how you will make it through one more today, be comforted with the surety that He is with you.

If you have a broken heart, you can count on His presence to bind up your wounds and to begin the healing process. Do not push Him away at these moments but welcome Him and receive His comfort. Many Christians squeeze God out of their lives at the very time they need Him most desperately. No one will comfort you like the Lord.

“Surely our griefs He Himself bore and our sorrows He carried.” – Isaiah 53:4.

Jesus has taken all of the things that have broken your heart to the cross of Calvary. He wanted you to live an abundant life on earth! The pain has already been carried and has been laid at the foot of the cross.

Practical Application:

1 – Even during emotional pain, it is important to be thankful. Record three things in your journal and share it with others. #beatdepression

2 – Pray for someone whose life is falling apart.

Declaration:

“God is close to me. When my life is falling apart I will draw near to the One Who is able to comfort me.

Prayer:

“Jesus, thank You for Your presence even when I am struggling with emotional pain. Thank You that You are working the details of my life together for good. Amen.”

Scripture:
Psalm 30
1I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
3Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
4Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.at…: or, to the memorial

8I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.
9What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

10Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.
11Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever
