UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:
People strive to enhance their standing before others by calling attention to their abilities and honors. What is the proper attitude toward our accomplishments? Paul told the Philippians that he willingly suffered the loss of his accomplishments for the greater goal of gaining and being found in Christ.
When we align our lives to the will of God, we find direction and energy for the long haul. A life lived pleasing God does not give us a guarantee to be problem-free. To the contrary, we are guaranteed some suffering, but we are also guaranteed to be supplied with the poser to overcome any obstacle that life and circumstances may present. Age, wisdom, and experience will teach us to wait upon the Lord and to be of good courage, knowing that God has promised to strengthen our hearts.
Lord, thank you for the struggles of life, for in our struggles we gain strength. We trust you to walk with us through every phase and stage of our lives so that we may win in the end. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
