In 1931, Theodore Frye and Thomas A. Dorsey, also known as the Father of Gospel Music created the first gospel chorus. Dorsey would go on to co-found the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. With more than 400 compositions, some of Dorsey’s more well-known songs are “Precious Lord,” “Peace in the Valley,” and “Highway to Heaven.”
