UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE: People often engage in a “me first” way of thinking, which results in conflict and makes cooperation difficult. How do people learn to work together? Paul compares the church to a body and encourages believers to see themselves as individual members that work in sync with all the other members.
CONCLUDING REFLECTION: The people of God should present themselves to God as a “living sacrifice” consecrated to Him. There is an impressive list of parallels that can be drawn between Romans 12 and the Sermon on the Mount.
PRAYER: We give you thanks, O God, for the privilege of offering our bodies to you as living sacrifices. Do not let us become haughty in our offerings and keep before us the importance of a living community free of competition and strife in the exercise of our gifts as we contribute to the body. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
