Longevity & Marriage Part 4: Finances
Finances is one of the biggest relationship stressors and therefore one of the top reasons for divorce. Here’s what worked for us in our marriage.
- Be transparent about your financial situation. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses regarding money. Build a plan to keep the strengths going and work on the weaknesses one at a time.
- Build a legacy for your future generations. Proverbs 13:22 says “A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children.”
- Build your joint monthly budget. We use the 50/20/20/10 formula (50% of income goes towards bills, 20% to savings & debt, 20% to leisure and 10% to tithes).
- Prioritize what’s important! A penny saved is a penny earned. Look through your bills and see where there’s waste. Cut what’s not important.
