The Washington Wizards reportedly acquired the No. 21 pick, used to select Illinois standout Will Riley, along with multiple second-round picks. In return, the Jazz received the draft rights to Walter Clayton Jr., a guard from Florida.

Riley, a 6’8″ forward from Kitchener, Ontario, had an impressive freshman season at Illinois. He averaged 12.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 43.2% from the field. Riley’s versatility and scoring ability were on full display during the NCAA Tournament, where he set an Illinois freshman record with 22 points in a first-round victory over Xavier. Known for his high basketball IQ and ability to perform in clutch moments, Riley was named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year and earned two Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

The Wizards are betting on Riley’s potential to develop into a key contributor. His ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions fits well with Washington’s rebuilding efforts. Riley’s high school accolades, including being the top-ranked Canadian prospect and MVP of the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp, further highlight his upside.

On the other side, the Jazz gain Clayton Jr., a dynamic guard who brings scoring and playmaking to their backcourt. Clayton’s ability to create his own shot and facilitate for teammates makes him a valuable addition to Utah’s roster.

This trade reflects the Wizards’ commitment to building through the draft while the Jazz prioritize immediate backcourt depth. Both teams hope their new additions will pay dividends in the upcoming season.

The Wizards used their first 2025 NBA Draft pick (6th overall) to select guard Tre Johnson out of the University of Texas.
