STARZ Releasing New Rodeo Show

Starz is officially making a move into the high-stakes world of the Black rodeo with a new eight-episode family drama set in Southeast Texas. This project marks a significant step for the network as it continues to build out its roster of fully owned original series following its separation from Lionsgate. The untitled show focuses on three siblings grappling with the powerful legacy of their mother and the unresolved complications left behind by their father.
According to Kathryn Busby, the president of original programming at Starz, the series aims to blend hip hop swagger with country soul to tell a story that is uniquely Texan. The network is leaning into the kind of bold storytelling that has defined hits like P-Valley, focusing on underrepresented cultures and complex family dynamics. By owning this series outright, Starz is shifting its business model to prioritize long-term control over its content and global distribution.
The creative side of the project is led by creator and showrunner Kirk A. Moore, known for his work on Demascus and American Crime. He is joined by an experienced group of executive producers including Mark Johnson and Myki Bajaj from Gran Via Productions, alongside Tony Hernandez, Elise Henderson, and Lilly Burns representing Counterpart Studios. This production team brings a wealth of experience from major hits like Breaking Bad and Interview with the Vampire.
While a premiere date has not yet been set, the series is expected to serve as a cornerstone of the network’s upcoming slate. The show promises to deliver a mix of urban grit and Southern tradition, offering an authentic look at a rodeo culture that is rarely center stage in mainstream television. With family secrets and shifting alliances at its core, the drama is poised to be a major addition to the Starz lineup.
