Gospel Music Mourns The Loss of Nikki Ross Bellamy
Gospel music is mourning the loss of Nikki Ross Bellamy, one of the Houston’s most respected voices and a singer whose gift reached people far beyond Texas.
Ross Bellamy died August 14 at the age of 54. Her passing was announced by New Jerusalem Churches of Sound Doctrine, where she was a longtime member and a beloved part of the ministry.
For people who know gospel music, Nikki Ross Bellamy wasn’t just another vocalist. She had one of those voices that carried weight. You could hear the church in it. You could hear life in it. You could hear the kind of gift that doesn’t come from performance alone.
Over the years, Ross Bellamy recorded and ministered alongside some of gospel’s biggest names, including Kirk Franklin, Ricky Dillard & New G, James Fortune & FIYA, The Walls Group and Jonathan Nelson. She was also part of the music staff for BET’s Sunday Best, helping support a platform that brought gospel talent to a national audience.
Her voice can be heard on songs like “He’s Been Just That Good,” “There Is No Way,” “I Surrender All,” “Make A Sound,” and “Yes.” She also released her own solo music, including “God Is Able,” and continued recording even while facing health challenges in recent years.
Her final public performance came in July at the Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention, which feels fitting for a voice that meant so much to the gospel community. She was still showing up, still using her gift, and still giving people something they could feel.
Nikki Ross Bellamy’s passing is a major loss for Houston, but her impact reached far beyond one city. She leaves behind music, memories, ministry, and a legacy that will continue to speak.
We’re praying for her husband, Ty Bellamy, their children, her family, church family, friends, and everyone touched by her life and voice.
