Ever since the reality series “Sorority Sisters” made its debut on VH1, the show has sparked a lot of controversy within the Black community and many advertisers decided to pull their ads from the program due to the portrayal of “greek life” on the show. Consequently, Delta Sigma Theta sorority reportedly expelled five members that are on the show: Shanna McCormick, Adrene Ashford, Lydia Mitchell, Priyanka Banks, and MeToya Monroe are all banned from attending and participating in any events that are associated with the sorority and they are forbidden from wearing or using any items that references Delta Sigma Theta. Last year, two cast members of the show who were a part of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority were suspended from the organization. Read more.


North Miami Beach Mayor Wants To Ban Police from Using Mug Shots for Target Practice

After news circulated that the North Miami Beach Police Department was using mug shots of African-American men for target practice, North Miami Beach Mayor George Vallejo has decided to express his frustrations with the department. He released a statement earlier this week deeming the target training practices as “offensive and unacceptable”: “North Miami Beach is better than this. We are a richly diverse city, a fact our residents are very proud of, and as Mayor I will not allow anything to disrupt the harmony and goodwill that exists in our community,” said Mayor Vallejo in a statement. “We will strive to be more sensitive to all and remain focused on being a community-mindful police department. We see this challenge as an opportunity to examine all policies within our police department.” North Miami Beach Police Chief J. TLC Launches Kickstarter for Final Album

TLC is looking to make a comeback. After taking a break from the music industry for more than 10 years, the group’s members, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, are planning to record their final album and are looking to their fans for help. The two took to social media to announce the launch of their Kickstarter campaign. So far they’ve raised $104,381 of their $150,000 goal. “We wouldn’t dream of making our final album with anyone BUT our fans. Come on y’all, BE A PART OF TLC HISTORY!” read their Kickstarter page. “This final album will be the first studio album by the two of us. Of course, Lisa’s spirit will always be present in our music.
