tress and Baltimore native Jada Pinkett Smith donated $10,000 to the Baltimore state’s attorney’s office’s fund for victims and witnesses of crime.
The office held its inaugural Winter Solstice on Thursday to benefit the Victims Emergency Fund. More than 250 people attended the event, which raised a net $17,639 for the fund.
Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby said in a statement emailed to The Baltimore Sun that her office was extremely grateful to Pinkett Smith.
“It is truly a privilege to see those from our great city continue to give back to the community,” Mosby said. “Mrs. Pinkett Smith has made service to people across the country one of her many priorities as a philanthropist, and I am so honored that she looked to my office as an opportunity to help victims and witness of crime in Baltimore City.”
The Victims’ Emergency Fund, sponsored by Mosby’s office, covers the immediate needs of crime victims in the city. Eligible costs include repairing broken windows and locks, replacing stolen medication, cleaning up crime scenes and more, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
