Self-control is a fruit of the spirit and this Christmas you must exercise some while shopping for loved ones.

With so many temptations to over-spend in the name of giving this season, Empowering Everyday Women Online Magazine is sharing three simple commandments for smart shopping.

COMMANDMENT #1

Thou Shalt Make a List & Check It Twice

When you walk or “click” into a store, if you wander aimlessly, totally unprepared for the emotional assault of well-researched sales tactics, you’ll definitely have buyer’s remorse after the holidays.

Don’t shop without knowing who will be getting a present this year. Unless you have an endless flow of cash, you’ll have to decide who makes the cut and whogets cut before making selections.

COMMANDMENT #2

Thou Shalt Create & Honor your Budget

After you know who you will be buying for, determine how much you will spend on their gift(s) and don’t go over that amount. Be sure your budget is based on your current income and expenditures, and only shell out what you can comfortably afford to lose. After all, life and bills continue on well after the Christmas holiday is over.
