A judge ordered Brandon Holman held on $1 million bond Tuesday for the murder of his infant son, the Chicago Sun Times reports.

Holman’s 2-month-old son, Bryson Holman, died in his sole custody on Saturday. Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Howroyd said Bryson suffered from a subdural hemorrhage, multiple broken ribs, and a bi-lacerated liver, according to the Sun Times.

Holman, 34, has given authorities different stories about what caused Bryson’s injuries. The newspaper said Holman told investigators that Bryson may have choked on his own vomit. He later said the baby could have rolled off an air mattress. Holman also suggested that he could have dropped the baby on the floor and unintentionally smothered him.

Witnesses told investigators that Bryson was alive and healthy on Friday night. The child’s mother, Holman’s girlfriend, said she called Holman early Saturday at his parents’ house, where Holman lived in the basement. During the call, Bryson’s mother said she heard her son crying in the background.

By noon, Holman, who also has a newborn with his wife, called paramedics. Howroyd said Bryson was “cold” and unresponsive when the paramedics arrived. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

An autopsy report ruled Bryson’s death a homicide. He had injuries that were not caused by an accident, the Sun Times reported.
