Shooting In Lower Manhattan Federal Building

As a wave of hate crimes continue to sweep the nation following Donald Trump’s presidential win, vicious attacks continue to go unnoticed by mainstream media. Case in point: the recent death of talented musician Will Simms.

28 year-old Will Sims, an accomplished musician and vocalist from the Bay Area, was murdered by three white men in El Sobrante, California. Simms, described by those who knew him as a gentle and peaceful soul, was targeted, robbed, beaten, shot and left on the side of the road to die after leaving a local pool hall. Police have gone on record confirming Simms’ murder as a hate crime.

Daniel Porter-Kelly, 31, of Richmond, has been arrested and charged with murder, robbery, and a hate crime for targeting the young musician because of his race. Two additional men, Ray Simons 32, and Daniel Ortega, 31, were accomplices in the murder and are still at large. Police warn that they are both armed and dangerous.

Sims was an accomplished pianist who also played the guitar, saxophone, violin and was a respected singer. He had been part of the award-winning JAZZ-ology group since 2012. The group performed at a number of festivals around California. His friend Brett Murphy told SF Gate, ‘[Will] cared for and helped others any chance he got. He always wanted others to be as happy and have as much fun as he was. He made friends with everyone. He was very charismatic.”
