The Legendary Clark Sisters

The Clark Sisters are a legendary gospel music group, comprised of sisters Jacky Clark Chisholm, Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark, Dorinda Clark Cole, and Karen Clark Sheard. Born and raised in Detroit, MI., they are the daughters of renowned gospel musician and choral director, the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, and have been singing together since 1966. The Clark Sisters have received numerous notable awards and honors collectively, including 3 Grammy Awards, 15 Stellar Awards, and one NAACP Image Award. The Clark Sisters have produced 17 albums to date — including their most recent release: The Return. The Return, which debuted at #1 on Nielsen and #2 on Billboard and is a studio album with featured producers Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, and Warryn Campbell, with a special rap cameo from Hip Hop legend,Snoop Dogg on the song “His Love”. The leading single, “Victory” was #1 on Gospel Billboard for two weeks in a row in June 2020 and was followed up by a second #1 song, “His Love” feat Snoop Dogg in May 2021. This marks three number one songs for the legendary group! In March 2021 The Clark Sisters won “Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album” at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards!

Revered by numerous Pop and R&B artists such as Mariah Carey, Jill Scott, Beyoncé, and Xscape, The Clark Sisters were honored at the 2016 Essence Music Festival for their musical contributions with remarks and/or performances from Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Ledisi, Keke Wyatt, Chrisette Michele, Kelly Price and more. Also because of their signature sound, their vocals were also most recently featured on the albums of hip-hop artists Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West. The biopic of their lives, executive produced by Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah and Holly Carter, “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel”, premiered on Lifetime on April 11 with 2.7 million viewers! This was the highest viewed premiere on Lifetime since 2016 and was the most watched original movie on all of television in 2020!

They have also been featured on mainstream press including 3 performances on The Grammy’s (along with three Grammy Award wins), and this years’ interviews include Extra, The Real, Steve Harvey on Watch, OWN and a special performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and GMA3: What You Need to Know.

Credited for helping to bring gospel music to the mainstream, The Clark Sisters are considered pioneers of contemporary Gospel music. Some of their crossover hits include “Is My Living In Vain?,” “Hallelujah,” “He Gave Me Nothing to Lose,” “Endow Me,” “Jesus Is A Love Song,” “Pure Gold,” “Expect A Miracle,” and “You Brought The Sunshine,” their largest mainstream crossover. “You Brought the Sunshine” was also played on Urban/R&B radio formats and in club venues around the world. The Clark Sisters are the highest-selling female Gospel group in history with millions of record sales to their credit.
