A confirmed tornado swept through parts of Henry County on Thursday, leaving widespread damage and multiple injuries, including the son of an actor who starred on the critically acclaimed crime drama, The Wire.

As reported by Fox 5 Atlanta, the tornado touched down at around 3:32 in the Blacksville area near McDonough and was moving northeast at approximately 10 mph. At the time, no watches were issued in the area.

Henry County Police Deputy Chief Jason Bolton confirmed that a man and his 18-year-old son were tossed from their home in the Laurel Creek subdivision in Locust Grove into nearby woods. “The 18-year-old is in critical condition and has been taken to Grady,” Bolton said.

Actor Tray Chaney, who played Malik “Poot” Carr on the long running HBO series, confirmed on Instagram that he and his son Malachi were the ones who were injured.

“Cherish life as much as you can,” Chaney said as he showed the destruction of his home. Chaney was released from the hospital with minor injuries, but Malachi suffered broken ribs and a fractured facial bone.

At this time, Malachi remains in the ICU at Grady Memorial Hospital.

In a statement to its Facebook page on Thursday, the city of Locust Grove spoke of the tornado:

Our hearts go out to those injured and suffered damage from the sudden tornado this afternoon. There is the possibility of more severe storms tomorrow that could produce sudden tornado touchdowns like today. Plan NOW. Download weather apps that will give you alerts. Be alert for sirens if you can hear them even if the weather outside seems calm.
